Unfair trading reform: prepare AI customer journeys for July 2027
Unfair trading reform: prepare AI customer journeys for July 2027. Enacted; substantive commencement 1 July 2027. Check coverage for each AI use case.
The enacted reform addresses unfair trading practices, transaction-based charges and subscription contracts. Its commencement table specifies 1 July 2027. Passage, assent and commencement are distinct events; the new regime should not be described as already operative in October 2026.
For AI-assisted sales and retention, investigate personalised nudges, decision interfaces, fee presentation, renewal notices and cancellation steps. Preserve screenshots and test journeys, including vulnerable-customer scenarios. Dynamic pricing or an AI claim is not automatically unlawful merely because AI is used; the relevant legal elements and existing ACL rules still matter.
